I attended a LOVELY tea yesterday at the Reagan Library with some of my ‘gal pals’ (nod to Jackie for the borrowed name) and my family. I was so glad everyone could makes it, many took a day or at least part of a day off from work. The tables were lovely; the service, attentive; the food, tasty. We had a harpist! I don’t feel like I ate much; I was nervous being the glue that bound the two groups together, but it is true that I don’t care for most sandwiches served at teas anyway. I think I am just smitten with the idea of taking tea. The best part was the docent led tour of the grounds and museum exhibits. When we first met our docent, a retired 30 year member of the US Air Force, she was scolding me for not having gone to the rest room before the tour started. Then, she was scolding me for taking too long when I did go. That woman walked faster backwards, leading our group and talking, than I could walk forward. That is, until I saw the “Natural Rattlesnake Habitat” sign. My step livened a bit. It wasn’t 5 minutes before she got into her stories; we all giggled. By the end of the tour, you wouldn’t have guessed she was ever in the armed forces, except that she was a real stickler for punctuality. I don’t know if it was the company, the location (I love that museum) or just my deep admiration for Reagan (the romantic), but I had a splendid time. It was nice to go out with the ladies. I do hope we can all find something we’d all enjoy and do it again.
